The Chameleon Fan Dipole gives you two bands, 20m for day operations and 40m for evening contacts using NVIS to cover a regional area. The best of both worlds basically with these very popular bands. The antenna is well made and I have no suggestions for improvement. Not the fastest to setup but a good camp antenna that won't let you down. I am keeping it!
In this video I show a folding Solar panel that can be put in a Backpack to charge various gadgets you may have.
Hello and welcome to the 427th installment of Linux in the Ham Shack. In this short topics episode, the hosts discuss the attrition present in CW contesting, grants for youths getting their ham radio licenses, the Election Day radio contest, Docker, SuperTuxKart, Fedora, Linux on Macs and much more.
In August, I set out with 3 friends from the SAR team to spend 4 days in the hills, building and refreshing our mountain skills and visiting some amazing summits. Afternoon thundershowers limited us to only two summits, but they were fantastic.
First on the list was Thunderbolt Peak at 14,003'. It has an incredible summit with a technical summit block. The next day, we summited Picture Puzzle Peak, a first for me, and a SOTA summit which had never seen an activation..
Hear our response on the ARRL Board of Director's endorsement of a program calling on ARRL to cover the $35 application fee for license candidates younger than 18 years old.
I have further developed an adjustiwave Standard to incorporate a 49:1 transformer as well as a switch which lets you change between using it as an End Fed Half Wave or Quarterwave Antenna.
I should have also checked 15m &10m as these should also be possible in this configuration giving you a 4 band antenna using 1 wire. I look forward to further testing.
A Hobby dependant on power, what do you do when the power goes out? A great many things actually!
In my opinion, the Off Grid Trek 120 watt folding solar panel is a bridge between ultra portable panels like those from PowerFilm Solar, and the other less portable solar blankets from manufacturers like Renogy, Goal Zero, Jackery and of course the Chinese copy cats.
Although not as lightweight as PowerFilm Folding panels, the OGT120 is lighter than the closest competing models from Jackery, Renogy and Goal Zero.If you don't plan on hiking with it very far, this portable solar panel may very well find a home in your gear closet
Yaesu announced the Yaesu FT5D, which will be their flagship ham radio HT. We take a look at what’s inside the box and my first impressions compared to the FT3D and my old Yaesu VX6. Is it worth your money? Watch for more videos in the future!
Hello Operators.
In this episode of OH8STN Ham Radio, we are having a looking at the portable ham radio amplifier from DIY599.com the PA500.
The PA500 is a 60 watt portable ham radio linear amplifier compatible with most QRP radios available today. The power amplifier has a built-in antenna tuner, auto band switching, auto band selection, and built-in low-pass filters. This ham radio review will make the case for a combining a QRP radio and amplifier, versus a QRO based portable ham radio station for the field. By Julian, OH8STN
The CHA Pocket Series are a series of single and multi-band HF antennas that can literally fit in your pocket when not in use. There are THREE models available: a 40-6 Meter Off- Center Fed Dipole (OCFD), 40 Meter Dipole, and a 20 Meter Dipole. By Chameleon Antennas.
Peirre, KM4WSJ, lives in Florida and is often victim to powerful lightning and thunder storms and is forced to disconnect his antenna. His question to Dave, Can you recommend a homebrew antenna that I could use indoors and could switch from the outdoor to the indoor during thunderstorms?
First impressions of the Chameleon Tactical Delta Loop (CHA-TLD) with a test at the park, NVIS on 40 and 80m using only 5W. Surprising performance so far. There will be a part 2 of course at another location using upper bands, WSPR, maybe JS8 and one whip on the Hybrid-Micro. By Gil, The Radio Prepper
Looks Like Yaesu is releasing a FT5D soon lets take a quick look and see if we see any new upgrades! Is this going to be Yaesu's best HT yet?
SOTA is a unique combination of Mountain-Hiking and Amateur Radio and by the way a worldwide Diploma program.
René, HB9NBG and his YL Carine, HB9FZC had heard about that great Amateur Radio operation mode first time in 2015. In the last 6 years Carine and René were very active in activating SOTA-Summits in the Swiss Alps with their ELECRAFT KX-2. Join them on some of their tours during SOTA summer 2021 and enjoy!
The DB25-D is an interesting DMR radio. It is more powerful than a hand held radio and only partially bigger, but you don't get to the full 50 watts of other mobile radios. By Josh, KI6NAZ from Ham Radio Crash Course
